Coffee and Cream

If you drink your coffee with store bought creamer (I do!), have you ever taken the time to read the label? Store-bought creamers are kinda gross, as a general rule. They contain artificial ingredients, not to mention ingredients like corn syrup and partially hydrogenated oils. yuck. Its time to break up with chemical filled coffee creamers!

I have really been meaning to start making my own coffee creamer or switch to just using 1/2 and 1/2, but every time I search for recipes to make my own, they include sweetened condensed milk for part of the base...no thanks!

Well, I recently found a very basic recipe that I am pretty excited to try out.
  1. 1 cup half and half
  2. 1 1/2 cups milk (non fat, 1%, or 2%, personal preference)
  3. 2 tbsp. sugar (optional)
  4. 1 tbsp. pure vanilla extract
  1. In a medium sauce, over low heat, add half and half, milk and sugar. Whisk until sugar is dissolved and bubbles start to appear on the sides of the pan; about 10 minutes.
  2. Take pan off of heat and whisk in vanilla extract. Let cool and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. This will last about a week or more.
  3. Adjust sweetness to taste.
My only hesitation is that I would like to find a recipe that doesn't involve cooking. Am I being silly? I really should just start buying Plain Jane 1/2 and 1/2 for our coffee and just add a splash of vanilla. I just feel like I could save some money if I made creamer instead of having to buy it!
